Scientific framework and objectives

This project builds on my doctoral work on the genetic relationship between the Sáliban languages (see Rosés Labrada (accepted)), which proposes for the first time sound correspondences resulting from regular sound changes for the three Sáliban languages (i.e., Mako [wpc], Piaroa [pid] and Sáliba [slc]). The main goals of this project are 1) to create a reference lexicon for each of the three Sáliban languages in the family as well as for Hoti [yau], an isolate that has been claimed to be related to the Sáliban languages, using published and unpublished materials and 2) apply traditional historical-comparative techniques to the resulting lexical corpora using AmLex.
