Cadre de l'étude et objectifs

Ce projet vise les relations parmi des peuples de l'Afrique méridionale qui parlent des langues indigènes non-bantu (dites 'khoisan') et bantu pour élucider leur préhistoire.

Les peuples khoisan sont très divers d'un point de vue linguistique, culturel, et biologique. Les linguistes spécialistes de ces langues les classent en trois familles différentes. En plus, à part les peuples chasseurs-cueilleurs, qui sont les mieux connus d'un point de vue ethnologique, il existe aussi des groupes d'éleveurs. Par contre, les peuples qui parlent des langues bantu sont plus homogènes d'un point de vue biologique et culturel, et leurs langues font partie d'une seule famille.

Le projet a pour but de répondre aux questions suivantes: Est-ce que les similarités entre les langues 'khoisan' (par exemple la présence des consonnes click) sont dues à une parenté commune ou au contact aréal? Comment et dans quelle mesure les peuples khoisan ont interagi avec ses voisins bantuphones? Existe-t-il des preuves qui soutiendraient l'hypothèse que les peuples parlant des langues de la famille khoe-kwadi sont originaires de l'Afrique orientale? Comment les peuples parlant les langues bantu se sont-ils répandus sur l’Afrique sub-saharienne ? Nous étudions ces questions avec des analyses génétiques très fines d'une grande base d'échantillons de nombreux peuples de Botswana, Namibie et Zambie.

En juillet-août 2015, nous avons entrepris un mission en Botswana et Namibie pour diffuser nos résultats aux communités qui avaient participé dans notre étude. Pour voir le rapport sur cette mission cliquez ici.
