Cadre de l'étude et objectifs

The Cariban family is one of the major families in South America, comprising 42 languages. Numerous conflicting hypotheses have been put forward regarding its internal classification (Durbin 1977, Kaufman 1994, Gildea 2012). Our current project is based on a 100-meaning wordlist from 36 varieties organized in cognate sets including items that have undergone semantic shift, which is analyzed with Bayesian phylogenetic methods.
