Scientific framework and objectives

Communicating is based on the perception of information from different sensory sources, which our brain integrates to be able to access the meaning of the message and promote the implementation of appropriate behaviours. A fluid, rapid multi-sensory integration is therefore a fundamental skill whose establishment represents a major challenge for our perceptual, motor and cognitive systems. The objectives of the work carried out in this project are both to better understand the neural mechanisms that integrate auditory and visual information from the speech signal, and to determine whether the mechanisms used in young children are similar to those used in adults.
